Professor Peju Layiwola of the Creative Arts Department in the The University of Lagos won the elections and was announced the 21st President of ACASA at the close of the virtual triennial of the Council. According to the official website of the University, her research interests highlight how daily customs contribute to an overall tapestry of empathetically considering one's identity and history. It also "positions the 'ordinary' within complicated historical and socio-cultural contexts, uncovering the inherent richness and density of everyday tradition."

The Arts Council of the African Studies Association (ACASA) is a multinational scholarly organization that promotes better comprehension of all the forms of African material and expressive culture. It equally pushes for contact and cooperative work with African artists and scholars at home and abroad.

The Lagos Studies Association (LSA), on the other hand, is an international body of academics and non-academics who are focused on Lagos and its citizens.

Preceding Professor Peju Layiwola on her distinguished LSA award are such individuals as Jonathan Haynes, Kristin Mann, and Ayodeji Olukoju.
